The virtues of karam (magnanimity), ‘izzat (honour) and shuja’ah (courage) are often so distorted they result in a gross public display of arrogance, shame and bravado. The Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, reflected the most lofty virtues without glitz or glamour. If Muslims wish to live virtuous lives they need look no further than the life of Allah’s Messenger. Today, Holloywood’s dramatization of greed and betrayal pitched in a dark battle against honour and courage in epic movies such as “The Day of the Falcon” starring Antonio Banderas, can obscure the Prophetic virtues of honour, love and courage. Addressing this important topic at our monthly Mawlid is Shaykh Muhammad Al-Ninowy, a master of the science of hadith and a scholar who has not only studied the Prophetic biography with many of the leading ‘ulema of our age, but he is also a direct descendant of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him.
